I have been a volunteer with Guiding Eyes since 2018! During my junior year at Ithaca College, I joined the campus club GEB@IC as a way to make a difference and be part of a community of dog-loving people committed to expanding the lives and independence of those with vision loss. There is a saying in the puppy raising community, "raise a puppy, change a life," and at first I interpreted this to mean changing the life of someone in need of a service dog. Throughout my journey, I quickly learned their life is only one of the many lives changed when volunteering with Guiding Eyes. While there has been literal blood, sweat, and tears over the years, there are countless memories to highlight the shared joy, passion, excitement, humor, and love in this community. Between puppy raising, sitting, attending community events and more, my life has been forever changed by four paws and a lot of dog hair!
The WAGATHON is a cumulative marathon that you and your dog can do anywhere, at your own pace throughout the month of September. My goal is to hit 26.2 miles by September 30th – it's a PAWsome way to stay fit and have fun, all while raising critical funds to support Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s mission.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind changes lives by connecting amazing people with extraordinary dogs. For individuals who are blind or visually impaired, a Guiding Eyes dog means freedom, confidence, and the opportunity to experience all of life's adventures - big and small. From Home Training to Specialized Training to Running Guides and more, Guiding Eyes' pioneering programs are individualized to each student. Together, these dogs are paired with just the right student - and both their lives are forever changed. You can be a part of this life-changing mission by making a donation today!
