We are once again enjoying the September crisp weather to participate in the annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Wagathon. This is a cumulative marathon where participants walk 26.2 miles before September 30th.
I have volunteered with this organization since 2008. Our whole family has learned so much about visual impairments, relationship-centered dog training, and volunteer impact. I've met so many amazing people -- and dogs.
Our volunteers are often told, "I could never do that... I wouldn't be able to give them up." But my family understands that we are raising these puppies for a purpose. When the pup you've raised since she was 8 weeks old goes onto guide another person and make a huge difference in their life, it's worth it all.
Each guide dog is worth approximately $50,000. Every month, approximately 8-10 guide dogs graduate with their visually impaired handers, who receive the dog , free of charge. Guiding Eyes exists because of the support of we give. Thank you very much.
