Carl Richardson
Hello, all:
Thanks for visiting my page. As many of you know Megan and I got a new family member back in mid-June. If you have not met him, let me be the first to introduce you to Dayton! He is a beautiful 2-year-old male yellow labrador who was trained to be my guide dog from Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He is much more than a guide dog, though. He is my best friend, companion, keeper of secrets that only he and I know, protector and overall great dog!
I had gone almost 9 months between guide dogs and during that time, my mobility and independence had decreased. Having Dayton in my life has increased my mobility, freedom, and independence and given me a more optimistic outlook on life.
Now training these amazing dogs to dedicate themselves to giving the blind and visually impaired a sense of freedom and mobility does not come cheap. It costs an average of $50,000 per match to make sure that the amazing and dedicated staff give us the highest quality and most effective guides they can. They do this at no cost to the blind and low vision community!
So please support Dayton and me as we walk a minimum of 26.2 miles as a team during the month of September. I have always said I would never run a full marathon, but I will walk it over a month’s time! I will update this page with our progress over the month of September for you to follow.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
All our best,
Carl and Dayton
