Once again I am proudly volunteering for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind (GEB) WAGATHON! Last year, with your help, I finished in second place in the nation fundraising for this fabulous organization. This year my goal is to finish in first to honor our sweet Bixx (she was 15 years, 2 months old and the sweetest dog), our Shasta (that's her at the piano doing her version of Warren Jevon;s Werewolves of London), and we are promised a new puppy from Guiding Eyes for the Blind (or perhaps a release).

I have visited Guiding Eyes three times now and have seen first hand the incredible work they do. I know they change lives.

And this organization is 100% funded via donation (no government grants, it's up to us!). So my goal is to raise $12,000 along with Shasta completing the WAGATHON distance (you all know I will, I hike 10km almost every day, so I do the distance about every 4 days.) I limit Shasta's miles this time of year when it is so hot (black labs can cook). I use the WAGATHON to start to get Shasta in hiking shape to join me on the snow hikes that start in November (or October?, Or December?).

Please help us reach our goal, and see you on the trail (anyone up for a lap of Round Valley's Big Easy with me? I hike that loop almost every day.)

Now the GEB definition of the WAGATHON:

The WAGATHON is a cumulative marathon that you and your dog can do anywhere, at your own pace throughout the month of September. The goal is to hit 26.2 miles by September 30th – all while raising critical funds to support Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s mission to provide guide dogs to people with vision loss. It’s an opportunity for people and dogs alike to stay active and do good.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind changes lives by connecting amazing people with extraordinary dogs. For individuals who are blind or visually impaired, a Guiding Eyes dog means freedom, confidence, and the opportunity to experience all of life's adventures - big and small. From Home Training to Specialized Training to Running Guides and more, Guiding Eyes' pioneering programs are individualized to each student. Together, these dogs are paired with just the right student - and both their lives are forever changed. You can be a part of this life-changing mission by making a donation today!

Thank you for your support! - Bill
